CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Kirkwood High tight end Parker Keenan has been named Clarksville Now Player of the Week after recording 90 receiving yards and a touchdown reception in the Cobras’ 56-0 win over the Northwest Vikings.

Only two area teams won their matchups Friday night, and while both featured strong individual performances, Keenan’s play stood out amongst the rest. In addition to his touchdown reception, the Arkansas commit played a key role as a blocker, helping open up rushing lanes for quarterback Miles Reding, who scored three touchdowns on the ground against the Vikings.

“I really felt like I was able to kind of flow in the offense, get the ball and make up some of my own routes that might not have been guarded up. We’re really just getting that connection with Miles. It’s been really good,” Keenan told Clarksville Now.

Keenan is committed to play football at Arkansas next fall, becoming the second player in Kirkwood program history to commit to an SEC program. He believes his size and college commitment have helped create opportunities for the Cobras’ offense. “Being committed to Arkansas and being the big body, I am, I think it kind of puts a target on me with a lot of defenses. That in itself, I feel like, opens up a lot of our offense in the run game and receiving game,” he said.

That was evident Friday night as Kirkwood built a 49-0 halftime lead, allowing the starters to sit out the second half of the shutout victory. Now, the Cobras turn their attention to Henry County in a matchup for the region 7-5A title. With a championship on the line, Keenan’s focus is on executing his role and helping Kirkwood get off to a strong start.

“I have to be explosive on the ball and block hard,” he said. “We’ve been working super hard at this; we’ve been getting after it; we’re all hungry for that region title, and we are 100% ready.”
