FORT CAMPBELL, KY (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – We may never have had a Player of the Week with as much versatility as this week’s selection. Fort Campbell senior Haden Wise played quarterback, running back, linebacker and anywhere else he was needed en route to a 44-12 victory over Todd County Central.
Not only did Wise play all of those positions, but he excelled. His stat line included 206 yards on 27 carries, two touchdowns and an interception on the defensive side of the ball. Fort Campbell head coach Henry Mitchell said Wise has been invaluable.
“Right now, with five games played, if we had to pick a team MVP, he would be it,” Mitchell told Clarksville Now. “He’s not only doing it from the quarterback position, he’s also doing it from the running back position. When he’s not playing quarterback, he goes and plays middle linebacker.”
Playing both sides of the football is tough. Playing both quarterback and middle linebacker is one of the most demanding things you can do on a football field. That’s why Wise’s never-stop mentality and intensity have been so beneficial to the Falcons.
“He’s tough as nails. He runs the ball hard, and he tackles well,” Mitchell said. “If he’s got to come out of the game, he’s ready to come back within a play or two. He’s one kid that’s got to be totally hurt not to finish the game.”
That ability helped get Fort Campbell back in the win column, and now the Falcons will look to keep it going. It’ll be a tough matchup Friday, but a win over undefeated Caldwell County would give this squad a statement victory.
