CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Houston Mustangs traveled to Exit 8 at Rossview High School for a sectional soccer match against the Hawks, with the right to go to the state tournament on the line.
Gracen Adams goal in the 61st minute was all the Mustangs needed for a 1-0 victory in a hard-fought match, sending Houston to state for the 13th time in 15 years, and ending the Hawks’ season after a late run.

How the high stakes game played out
Houston threatened many times in the first half, but couldn’t put anything on the scoreboard.
Despite the Mustangs getting off a lot more shots than Rossview in the first half, goalie Pierce Grandy and the Hawks’ back line were doing just enough to keep the game level, and we headed into halftime knotted at 0.
Rossview couldn’t hold off the normally high-powered Houston offense off forever though, as the Mustangs found a loose ball in the box and sent a screamer to the back of the net for a goal that proved to be the game-winner in the 61st minute. In the end, Rossview couldn’t find a response.
While the Hawks’ season came to a close, they deserve the flowers as the last soccer team standing in Clarksville, as well as the run they went on to get to this point. The Hawks were plagued with injuries to start the season but rallied to win eight of their last nine games, including a fifth straight region title. With the loss, spring sports season is now over in Clarksville.
