CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Following social media chatter from over the weekend, Clarksville Now confirmed with the City of Clarksville that a Stop Work Order (SWO) was recently issued on every active permit that national builder Lennar Homes had for developments within city limits.
According to Justin Crosby, Director of Clarksville Building & Codes, a SWO was issued on every active permit as the department attempted to get the builder to realign their workflow with the city’s inspection process requirements.
“No homes are being constructed without the proper permits now, and none have been built prior to now without the proper permits and inspections,” Crosby said this afternoon.
Reported observations that led to Stop Work Order
According to the SWO at one location in the Longview subdivision in Clarksville, the following violations had been observed, which led to the notices:
- Required inspections were not requested by the permit holder or authorized agent prior to proceeding with construction.
- Construction progressed beyond one or more required inspection stages without approval from the building official.
- Work has been covered, concealed or continued without allowing the required inspection(s) to be performed, where applicable.
- The construction therefore cannot be verified as complying with the approved permit documents and applicable provisions of the 2018 International Residential Code (IRC).
The SWO then asked for Lennar Homes to provide a list of permits so the review process can begin, and Building & Codes can work toward lifting the order.
When asked if the SWO had been lifted, Crosby said Building & Codes is working with the builder now to remove the signage, and they’ve already removed a handful today.
Lennar Homes declined to comment at this time.
