CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Almost 10 years after the 2017 Mitchell Street fatal shooting in New Providence, one of the three defendants is no longer facing murder charges after reaching a settlement in a separate case.

On Nov. 20, 2017, Clarksville Police responded to a shooting in the 200 block of Mitchell Street and found 28-year-old Rayquan Hudson on the front porch with gunshot wounds to his upper body, according to previous reports. He was transported by ambulance to Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville in critical condition and later died from his injuries.

Three men – Shamar Lebron Blount, Darius Devon Woods and Khavell Solomonmilik Williams – were indicted in 2022 on charges of first-degree murder in perpetration of a crime and robbery. Their joint trial was set for February this year before being rescheduled, according to court records.

Blount’s charges dismissed in settlement

On June 5, the first-degree murder and robbery charges against Blount were dismissed as part of a settlement agreement, court records show. As part of that settlement, Blount entered guilty pleas in a separate case to two counts of possession of a weapon as a felon, and he will serve 10 years at the Tennessee Department of Corrections at 30%, as a Range I offender, with 946 days of jail credit.

When reached by Clarksville Now, the District Attorney’s Office declined to comment.

Attorney Chase Smith, who represented Blount, told Clarksville Now that Blount should have never been charged in the Mitchell Street homicide. Smith said Blount’s only connection to the case was that he knew the two co-defendants years ago, adding that there was “no proof against” Blount, unlike with his co-defendants.

Woods, 30, and Williams, 31, are scheduled to stand trial on Feb. 16, 2027, at the Montgomery County Courts Center.
