CHARLOTTE, Tenn. (AP) — Court documents say a Tennessee driver in a crash that killed two teenagers and injured another has been indicted on charges including vehicular homicide, DUI and drag racing.
News outlets reported Thursday 20-year-old Michael Fitch was indicted by a Dickson County grand jury this month.
Authorities say the then-19-year-old was driving a car in September with 17-year-old William Howard, 17-year-old Layton Woodard and Woodard’s 15-year-old sister, Chelsie, riding inside.
A county sheriff’s office statement says a deputy saw the car and a motorcycle racing, but the vehicle sped away when he tried to stop it. He later found the car after it struck two trees.
Both 17-year-olds died at the scene. Chelsie suffered a traumatic brain injury.
Fitch’s arraignment is scheduled Jan. 14. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer who could comment.
