FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. – The 1st Brigade Combat Team “Bastogne” will be partnering with the Fort Campbell community to host the “Brutal Fitness 5K Challenge” scheduled for July 13. The 5k road race is open to the public and will serve as the Eagle Challenge Fitness Tour event for the month of July.

The race will consist of nine physical challenges that are described as being tests of “strength, stamina, and endurance,” with three levels of difficulty available to suit the abilities of all those participating. Tire flips sand bag overhead presses will be among the more demanding activities, while a 1K “Little Brute” course will be available for children. “The Little Brute Challenge” will start at 9 a.m.

Competitions will also take place within categories such as “Stroller Strong”, “Backpacker” and “Most Brutal Outfit.”

Check-in for the event will begin at 6:00 a.m., with participants starting the challenges in waves an hour later. Individual wave times will be assigned to participants via email and will be based on the number of people registered for each category. Bikes and pets are not allowed on the course.

Those interested in the Brutal Fitness 5K are encouraged to register by July 11 to take advantage of the $15 fee that will increase to $20 for all who register on the day of the event.

Future events planned for the Eagle Challenge Fitness Tour include an August 24 Rally on the Cumberland and Kayak Races in Clarksville, the September 14 Trot for the Troops 5k/10k and Fun Run in Hopkinsville, the October 19 Go Commando Half Marathon/5k and Fun Run in Hopkinsville, and The Culminator taking place November 16. ECFT is a series of ten monthly events that will take place from February through November in 2013.
