CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Military recruiting centers in Clarksville are being affected by the recent shooting that killed four Marines and a Sailor, July 16 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The door to the Armed Forces Career Center at 495 Dunlop Lane is locked with a note on the door saying “Due to the recent events in Chattanooga, TN. We are on a strict appointment only schedule. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
At the Army Career Center, 3031 Wilma Rudolph Boulevard, a group of citizens are offering their support protecting the center. The Montgomery County Chapter of the Oath Keepers are standing guard outside the building.
One member of the Oath Keepers, Derek Anderson, talked about what the group was doing. “We’re here to protect those who protect us. They are not allowed to carry any kind of sidearm here at work,” said Anderson.
One person carrying a handgun was at the center when Clarksville Now was there and volunteers, some of them armed, have been stationed outside the center this week to show their support for the military who work in the recruiting offices.
Anderson added that they had been at the Army Career Center since they opened Monday, July 20 and things have been nice and calm. He also said the Oath Keepers are a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, and is exactly what the name says, we keep an oath to protect those who can’t protect themselves.
