CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Governor Bill Haslam joined local and state officials in Clarksville Tuesday, June 9 in announcing an $832,666 transportation alternative grant to Clarksville for Phase 1 of the Red River East Trail Project. The grant was awarded through the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT).
The Red River East Trail is a trail segment that will help develop another major section of the city’s riverside pedestrian trail. The grant will add 3,200 feet of trail that on the western end of the project will launch from the pedestrian-vehicle bridge.
The eastern end of the project will have a trailhead ending which will be at an abandoned rail line. The project is part of the city’s greenway growing system. No timeline for the beginning or completion of the project was given.
“This project provides and alternative Transportation route between neighborhoods and the Cumberland Riverfront area. As well as promoting healthy activities. Projects such as this help improve the livability of our communities and the quality of life for residents and visitors,” Haslam said.
