Update, 10:38 a.m.: Montgomery County School Resource Officers have continued their investigation into the lockdown incident that occurred earlier this morning at Northeast Middle School, said Delaney. Updated information indicates that a physical altercation occurred between two students in a gymnasium locker room.

Following the altercation, a bystander reported to a school administrator that they had seen a firearm. Based on that report, the administrator initiated a lockdown as a precautionary measure.

School Resource Officers and investigators immediately began identifying and interviewing student witnesses and conducting searches for the reported weapon. At this time, law enforcement has received no additional reports of a firearm being seen, and no weapon has been located.

“The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. School Resource Officers and investigators will continue to follow up on all available information and thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident,” said Delaney.

The school is no longer on a hold, and classes have resumed.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Law enforcement units and first responders responded to Northeast Middle School in response to a lockdown implemented by a member of school staff, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at 9:38 a.m.

“Initial reports indicate that the lockdown was initiated due to a fight between multiple students. The Montgomery County School Resource Officers are investigating the matter with assistance from the Clarksville Police Department and CMCSS,” said MCSO spokesperson Bishop Delaney.

“Our investigation has concluded that a shooting has not taken place. Our deputies are continuing their investigation and will remain on scene for the safety of staff.”

Lockdown now lifted, initial message to families

According to CMCSS spokesperson Jessica Foreman-Goldberg, the lockout has been lifted at the guidance of law enforcement and families received the following message at 9:22 a.m.:

“This morning, the school went on a brief lockdown after reports of a potential weapon on campus. Immediately upon receiving the information, administrators, SROs, and law enforcement worked together to investigate the allegation,” said the message.

“Although there was no threat to school safety and everyone is safe, the school will remain on a lockout as school officials continue to thoroughly investigate the incident. Please know that keeping families informed is our top priority, and we will continue to communicate as more information becomes available.

“We deeply appreciate our law enforcement partners and the students who made the right choice to share information with a trusted adult. I also want to thank our students and employees for their cooperation,” said the message.
