CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A Clarksville woman was arrested Wednesday for falsely claiming to have cancer to collect money.
WKRN News 2 reports that 35-year-old Kristen Hines forged doctors’ signatures at the Gateway-Vanderbilt Cancer Treatment Center to use as proof, according to an arrest warrant.
Hines posted the forged documents on Facebook to ask for donations, and a benefit was held for her at The Warehouse Bar and Grill.
Police were contacted by one of the doctors whose signature Hines had forged, who told police neither doctor had seen or treated Hines.
The doctors were alerted to the scam after citizens called their offices to make donations to Hines’ non-existent account.
Hines was charged with forgery and was booked into the Montgomery County jail on $100,000 bond.
