Updated with TDOT widening plans for I-24 and for Trenton Road.
CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – People love to complain about the traffic in Clarksville, but c’mon, people: Let’s be more specific. What are the worst traffic spots in town, and why?
Here are the top 10 worst places for traffic in Clarksville, according to a look back at 2025 Clarksville Now articles and an informal survey of the staff at 5 Star Media Group.
1. 101st Airborne Division Parkway

The long stretch across north Clarksville is tempting for speeders, and despite multiple lanes and shoulders, a wrong move can cause head-on collisions. We’ve had about eight serious wrecks on the 101st Parkway in 2025, according to Clarksville Now archives. And if there is a wreck, there’s no easy detour, so you’re stuck for a long time.
2. Wilma Rudolph Boulevard
At least in 2025, Wilma had surprisingly few major wrecks. But the traffic – good Lord, the traffic. Particularly around the holidays, everyone wants to be near the stores and restaurants on north Wilma. Which is why we keep getting more stores and restaurants on north Wilma!

3. The Bypass
One of the scariest routes through Clarksville is US Highway 41A Bypass, aka/Ashland City Road, most commonly called “The Bypass.” Stretching from Cumberland Drive to Madison Street, this highway is mostly two lanes, no median, no shoulder, with occasional ravines on the side, and few traffic signals, making it another tempting stretch for speeders. There have been at least four major wrecks in 2025, and when there is a wreck, it’s too-often fatal.
4. Interstate 24
One of the fastest ways to get from one side of town to the other, it’s also a major U.S. interstate, so locals are competing with Nashville commuters and literal inter-state travelers for lane position. As expected, it’s had the most major wrecks, with at least 10 in 2025, and you’ll get the longest delays, since the portion through Clarksville needs a third lane in each direction. TDOT plans to widen I-24 from four lanes to six from the Kentucky state line to Exit 11 starting in 2027. Let’s not think about the extra traffic that construction will cause.
5. Intersection of Riverside and Providence (and Second and Kraft)

At the bottom of Boot Hill, just south of the Red River, four roads intersect: Riverside Drive, Providence Boulevard, Kraft Street and Second Street. It’s a choke point for Clarksville rush hour traffic, with frequent wrecks. The good news is that it’s surrounded by fast food, so you can always pull over and enjoy the show.
6. Warfield Boulevard/Richview Road
Anyone who looks at Google Maps during evening rush hour will tell you there’s a daily red line from about Dunbar Cave Road to Madison Street. The mostly two-lane Highway 374 switches there from Warfield Boulevard to Richview Road, flowing past the Clarksville High/Richview Middle School campus to get commuters onto Madison Street. It’s a daily delay seemingly designed to happen.

7. Trenton Road
Another school-related backup happens going north on Trenton near the Northeast schools campus. It’s a two-laner with no shoulder, creating daily backups. There have been a couple of major wrecks to boot. TDOT plans to widen Trenton from the 101st Parkway to I-24, from two lanes to five lanes, in 2029.
8. Fort Campbell Boulevard

The long, wide north/south corridor with multiple lanes and few traffic signals is another tempting run for speeders, particularly motorcyclists. Don’t even think about going below the speed limit or you’ll get run over. There were at least four serious wrecks in 2025.
9. Rossview Road
During school drop-off and pickup times, you better not be in a hurry. Rossview Road becomes a parking lot, despite recent widenings.
10. Intersection of Dunbar Cave Road and Old Russellville Pike
Survey data may have been influenced by the sampling group, but the 5 Star team is frustrated by trying to cross Dunbar Cave Road from Cave Road or Old Russellville Pike. All you can do is floor it and hope you guessed right on the speed of oncoming traffic!
