NEW ORLEANS – Youth from Clarksville, Tennessee embarked on an educational excursion that began with touring Jackson Square and visiting the 1850 House, Cabildo, and Presbytre where they learned about the rich history of New Orleans and sampled some of its fine cuisine.

The next day the group visited the Aquarium and Insectarium where some got to sample gourmet insects before enjoying the shops and sights of Magazine St.

On day three the group visited the Wax Museum and participated in a history based scavenger hunt with prizes awarded to the winners, followed by thrill rides at Carousel Garden Amusement Park for the remainder of the day.

The last day of the trip included a visit to the 9th Ward that was impacted most by Hurricane Katrina and visiting outlet shopping malls before returning to Clarksville.

“This was an amazing trip. I had such a great time shopping, trying new foods, and learning about New Orleans,” said one of the participants.

“This is my 3rd LEAP summer trip as a chaperone and like the rest, I’ve been touched by the impact that it has on the youth. The history that the youth learn is one thing, but the various break out mentoring sessions throughout the trip seem to have left a positive impression on the students,” said mentor Toni Jenkins

Some of the businesses and organizations that were instrumental in this trip possible were Clarksville Rotary, Daymar Institute, Leap of Faith Ministries, JoeShakeenab.com, the Marriott, Hertz, Keller Williams Realty, Veterans United Home Loan, and Planters Bank. There were also many individuals who sponsored students.

Planning is already underway for the next youth educational excursion to New York scheduled for the summer of 2015. For more information call 931-561-4204 or visit http://leaporg.net/programs/annual-field-trip/.
