CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Clarksville Christian School has announced that former Northeast High standout and Austin Peay State University hall of famer Drake Reed will take over as head coach for their boys basketball team.

“It’s still a bit surreal to be coming home to coach,” said Reed. “I grew up off Needmore Road. Many nights, I’d hear the speedway from my house. I’ve been on a journey for the Lord long before I realized it. Clarksville adopted a young kid from St. Louis, wrapped its arms around me, and never let go. After being all over the world, no words can define how humbled I feel to be able to teach kids from my own stomping grounds.”

Reed, a 6-foot-5 two-time all-state and three-time all-district selection, averaged 23 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists in his senior year at Northeast High. Reed was a key piece for the Govs in the mid-2000s under Dave Loos, earning an Associated Press All-American honorable mention and Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year in 2007. He is the most recent All-American in Austin Peay basketball history.

After his collegiate career, Reed played professionally for 11 years in four countries, including France and Australia. His coaching career has been spent coaching high school ball in Phoenix, Arizona. Now, he returns to his hometown and looks to turn around a Centurion program that went 7-15 last season.

“Our vision is to develop great young men to lead our program into the next level,” said Reed. “We want to prepare our student-athletes for the collegiate level.”
