CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – State Rep. Ronnie Glynn won re-election to District 67, clutching victory by half a percentage point over Republican Jamie Dean Peltz.

Glynn, a Democrat, got 11,051 votes (50.22%) to Peltz’s 10,920 (49.63%) – a difference of only 131 votes. “I was hoping for a bigger margin, but I’m not upset. It was always going to be a close race, we knew that, but 50 plus one is a win, and that’s all that matters,” he said.

He said his campaign stayed positive throughout, never throwing mud. He said Clarksville voters showed they wanted positive reasons to talk about the issues in their community.

When asked about the school voucher program, sometimes called school choice, he said, “The reality is, Tennessee doesn’t want it. It’s been proven that we do not want the vouchers. We know the governor stuck his hand in on many races and tried to tip the scale, but the reality is we had to fund our public schools. That’s what’s the bottom line. This idea of taking money from public schools and giving it to public schools doesn’t work, it’s been proven that it doesn’t work. And we have to stay true to that and continue to make sure that bill never sees the light of day.”

Peltz: ‘We are not going anywhere’

Peltz told Clarksville Now she felt good about the race. “I think we all worked hard, and it was a team effort. The results aren’t what we wanted, but I think they were resounding with what we were saying. We are not going anywhere,” she said.

“I genuinely think we spoke for the district and knocked on thousands and thousands of doors,” Peltz said.” I ran on the district’s agenda and not my own.”

Tennessee House District 67 covers the center portion of Clarksville, roughly from the Kentucky state line to the Cumberland River.
