CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – State Rep. Michael Lankford is running to keep his seat representing Tennessee House District 75.
Lankford, a lifelong Montgomery County resident, was appointed to the Tennessee House of Representatives in December 2025 following the passing of state Rep. Jeff Burkhart. He was sworn into office in January and said he has spent his first year in the General Assembly working to build relationships and deliver results for the communities he represents.
“Serving the people of District 75 has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” Lankford said. “I grew up here, went to school here, built my career here and chose to make my home here. I know our communities, and I want to make sure Montgomery County continues to have a strong voice in Nashville.”

During his first legislative session, Lankford passed eight pieces of legislation while serving on the House Commerce Committee, State and Local Government Committee, Business and Utilities Subcommittee, Departments and Agencies Subcommittee and Public Service Subcommittee.
His priorities include supporting law enforcement and first responders, strengthening education, improving roads and infrastructure, protecting taxpayers and maintaining Tennessee’s strong business climate. As Montgomery County continues to grow, Lankford said state and local leaders must also work together to ensure infrastructure and public services keep pace while protecting the rural communities that make the county and state unique.
“A community that is not safe cannot live up to its best potential,” Lankford said. “We also have to make sure our roads, schools and infrastructure are prepared for the growth we are experiencing and that Tennessee remains a place where people can afford to live, work, raise a family and build a business.”
Lankford lives on a farm in Palmyra and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in agricultural business. Before joining the General Assembly, he served on the Montgomery County Commission. He currently works in commercial banking.
