Update, 6:25 p.m. Sunday: Explosive Ordnance Disposal technicians from Fort Campbell safely secured, removed, and disposed of the blasting cap, which is an initiating device for explosives, according to post spokeswoman Nondice Thurman. No other explosive materials were reported or found at the scene.
“The 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell remain committed to supporting local authorities and ensuring the continued safety of the surrounding communities,” Thurman said.
Update, 8 p.m.: The Montgomery County Bomb Squad was able to identify the object as a military grade blasting cap, according to MCSO Lt Bishop Delaney. It was secured by the bomb squad. They contacted Fort Campbell EOD, who responded to the scene and took possession of the blasting cap.
Update, 4:20 p.m.: The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad responded to the scene and took control of the device. The scene has been cleared.
CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Goodwill Store on Needmore Road has been evacuated over a possible explosive device found in a donated bag.
At about 2:38 p.m., Clarksville Police responded to a possible explosive device found inside a green bag that had been donated to the Goodwill at 2001 Needmore Road.
Emergency personnel responded, and the building has been evacuated. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad has been notified and is responding to assess the item. Clarksville Fire Rescue and Montgomery County EMS have also responded.
Citizens are asked to avoid the area until the scene has been deemed safe.
