CLARKSVILLE, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – With the school year fast approaching, it is important to make sure your student is up to date on the immunizations they need to attend. Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) requires all students to meet the requirements set by the Tennessee Department of Health.
Immunization requirements for the State of Tennessee are as follows:
Preschool/Pre-K
- Hepatitis B (HBV)
- Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis (DTaP, or DT if appropriate)
- Poliomyelitis (IPV or OPV)
- Haemophilus influenza type B (Hib) – age younger than five only
- Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) – age younger than five only
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella – one dose of each, normally given together as MMR
- Varicella – One dose or credible history of disease
- Hepatitis A – One dose, required by 18 months of age or older
- Physical – within 12 months of starting pre-K
Kindergarten
- Hepatitis B (HBV)
- Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis (DTaP, or DT if appropriate)
- Poliomyelitis (IPV or OPV) – final dose on or after the fourth birthday
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella – Two doses of each, usually given together as MMR
- Varicella – Two doses or credible history of disease
- Hepatitis A – Total of Two doses, spaced at least 6-18 months apart
All children entering 7th grade
- Tetanus-Diptheria-Pertussis booster (Tdap) – evidence of one Tdap dose given any time before 7th grade entry is required regardless of Td history.
- Varicella – Two doses or credible history of disease
New enrollees in TN schools for grades other than kindergarten.
- Hepatitis B (HBV)
- Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis (DTap, or DT if appropriate)
- Poliomyelitis (IPV or OPV – final dose on or after fourth birthday
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella – Two doses of each, normally given together as MMR
- Varicella – Two doses or credible history of disease
- New students entering grades other than 7th grade are not required to have Tdap
Tennessee schools require an official certificate of immunization, which may be provided by a child’s healthcare provider or the Tennessee Department of Health. The Montgomery County Health Department is open Monday through Friday, 8:00-4:30 p.m. to serve low income and uninsured families.
