CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) Senior center Tearra Banks reached a prestigious milestone, Saturday, becoming the 19th player in the 1,000 point club as Austin Peay State University women’s basketball team fell 85-65 against Western Kentucky in the Dunn Center.
Banks posted 15 points against the Hilltoppers, shooting 6-of-13 from the floor. The Louisville native needed 14 points entering Saturday, and her layup with 2:55 remaining – her final shot attempt of the game – put her over the top.
Junior Brianne Alexander led the Govs offensively, going 7-of-10 for 16 points. It’s her second double-digit scoring output of the season, and fourth time in her career she has led APSU in scoring.
The Governors and Hilltoppers were tied 13-13 at the end of the first quarter before WKU went on a run, scoring 31 points in the second to take a 44-24 lead at halftime. The Lady Toppers shot 65 percent in the period, including four three-pointers.
However, Austin Peay didn’t go away easily, cutting the deficit to 17 after a 26-point third quarter. But WKU matched APSU’s 41 second-half points en route to the win.
The Govs will take the week off for final exams before traveling to Evansville next Saturday for a noon tip-off against the Purple Aces.
