CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Austin Peay State University softball team is in the midst of one of the most successful stretches in program history. In 2025, the team set a new attendance record and ended up winning an impressive 39 games. Then, in 2026, the team crossed the 30-win mark once again and enjoyed career seasons from several players.
Now, to prepare for the 2027 season, head coach Kassie Stanfill has made two additions to the coaching staff: Ryan Greenwood and Faith Canfield have both been added as assistant coaches.
“We are excited to announce the addition of Faith Canfield and Ryan Greenwood to our coaching staff,” said Stanfill. “Their proven experience, commitment to excellence, and passion for developing young athletes align perfectly with the vision of our program. I look forward to the positive influence they will have on our team and the future success they will help create.”
Canfield spent the 2026 season with the Belmont Bruins and helped lead the team to a Missouri Valley Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championship. Prior to her time at Belmont, Canfield spent four seasons at Michigan, her alma mater. In 2024, Canfield was a part of the NFCA’s 2024 Great Lakes Region Coaching Staff of the Year after the Wolverines had a 43-win season.
Meanwhile, Greenwood comes to Clarksville after spending the 2026 season with the Samford Bulldogs. Greenwood spent time in the prep and travel ball ranks before his time at Samford and has coached over 100 players who went on to play Division I softball.

Stanfill hopes to continue successful run in 2027
Stanfill has been the head coach at Austin Peay since 2019. The coach was former athletic director Gerald Harrison’s first hire, and she’s proven to be the right coach for the job.
Since being at the helm, Stanfill’s teams have won 30-plus games in four seasons. Stanfill has already become the all-time winningest head coach in program history, and the team is hoping to reload and contend again in 2027.
The 2026 campaign was a positive one, but it ended a bit prematurely with the Govs bowing out in the first round of the conference tournament to Florida Gulf Coast.
However, the season saw several players have career years as the Govs earned a program record seven Atlantic Sun Conference postseason honors in addition to five ASUN All-Academic Team selections. With the new coaching additions and several returning playmakers, the Govs will be looking to make some noise as they move to the UAC in 2027.
