Update, 9:50 p.m.: The NWS is now predicting a quarter to a half-inch of ice for Clarksville.

“Slick spots on roads and sidewalks will be possible. Use caution when travelling late tonight through Wednesday morning,” the NWS said.

Update, 9 p.m.: An Ice Storm Warning has been issued for Montgomery and surrounding counties through 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Total ice accumulations of one-quarter inch or more can be expected, according to the National Weather Service.

The warning is in effect for areas around Clarksville, Springfield, Dickson, Waverly and Dover.

“Power outages and trees snapping under the weight of the ice are being reported, and additional freezing precipitation is still expected this evening,” the NWS said. “Also plan on slippery road conditions.

“Travel is strongly discouraged. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Prepare for possible power outages.”

Update, 8:10 p.m.: A five-car pileup on Interstate 24 east at the 15 mile marker has lanes blocked.

In another wreck, MCSO deputies have I-24 shut down at eastbound mile marker 13 for a semi that has jack-knifed. The interstate eastbound is closed from Maxey Road to New Hope Road.

Westbound traffic is at a standstill or barely moving from Maxey Road to Exit 4.

Update, 7:05 p.m.: Patrol deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office are reporting dangerous road conditions.

“Roads are covered in sleet and ice and are very slippery,” MCSO said. “Patrol deputies are responding to several accidents and downed trees in the roadways. Please stay off the roads if possible.”

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – We’re now under a Winter Weather Advisory that’s in effect for Montgomery and surrounding counties until 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Mixed precipitation is expected, with total sleet accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch and ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch, according to the National Weather Service.

“Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute,” the NWS said.

There’s also a chance of freezing rain Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

Tonight: Freezing rain and sleet likely, mainly before 11pm. Cloudy, with a low around 23. North wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. Little or no sleet accumulation expected.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 38. North northeast wind 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday night: A slight chance of freezing drizzle before midnight, then a slight chance of freezing rain between midnight and 2am, then a chance of rain or freezing rain after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Thursday: A chance of rain or freezing rain before 9am, then a chance of rain showers. Cloudy, with a high near 41. Calm wind becoming north northwest around 5 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Thursday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. North northwest wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
