CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Austin Peay’s free Science on Tap lecture series continues virtually on April 6 at 7 p.m. when Dr. Dwayne Estes will offer a look at the Southeastern Grasslands Initiative (SGI), based at APSU.
Estes is the executive director of SGI and a biology professor at Austin Peay. His presentation is titled “The Southeastern Grasslands Initiative: Charting a New Course for Conservation in the 21st Century.”
The Southeastern Grasslands Initiative is a collaborative effort to educate the public, conduct research and protect southeastern grasslands, the most imperiled ecosystems in eastern North America.
Estes presentation will explore how grassland loss is the single greatest conservation issue facing eastern North American biodiversity. Southern grasslands are nearly extinct and the species that depend on them are fading fast.
Science on Tap returned in February after a year-long hiatus due to the COVID-19 vaccine.
