There will be no shortage of afternoon tunes this weekend in downtown Hopkinsville.
A total of six acts will take the stage Friday and Saturday in Hoptown, as the popular Summer Salute Festival returns for a third year of food, free family activities, and fun.
The largest annual festival in Hopkinsville, Summer Salute will have inflatable bouncers inside the Kids Zone and Heritage Bank train rides, all free, in addition to 100 vendors of the food, drink and merchant variety that will start serving at 10 a.m. both days. The Budweiser Beer Garden opens at 4 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday.
It’s the music where the event truly thrives, though. Beginning at noon Friday, The Pilgrim Project — a local contemporary duo with Christian music flare — will kick off the weekend, followed by Dry Creek Band at 2:30 p.m. Sponsored by Watkins Express Freight, the Jimmy Church Band will hit the stage at 5:30.
At 78 years young, Jimmy Church brings the funk, performing everything from Motown to Bruno Mars, and is often a crowd favorite in Hopkinsville.
The musical acts continue Saturday on the Founders Square stage, as Fort Campbell’s Big 5 will begin playing at noon, followed by the Not Quite Right Band at 2:30. Summer Salute ultimately culminates Saturday night with its featured act — nationally-renowned country music group Sawyer Brown — during a concert on “the big stage” in front of the Hopkinsville Justice Center.
Pennyrile Electric and Fortera Credit Union are sponsors of the Sawyer Brown concert.
All shows are free of charge. For more information, visit HoptownSummerSalute.com or search for “Hoptown Summer Salute on Facebook.
