Update, 4:21 p.m.: Clarksville Police detectives have learned the woman had been awakened by her dogs barking and believed someone was trying to break into her home. She heard someone at the front door and thought it was her husband trying to get inside. After unlocking and opening the door, an unknown man entered the townhouse, and a struggle began. The woman, who was armed, fired her weapon.
Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators later determined the man involved lived in the same complex. The man was in critical condition Monday afternoon.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville Police Department responded to a shooting that already occurred early Monday morning, in the area of Trenton Village, as a homeowner shot an intruder who had broken into her home.
At approximately 1:40 a.m., CPD responded to Trenton Village, at 2740 Trenton Road, and during their preliminary investigation, information indicated that the homeowner confronted and shot an individual who had broken into her residence.
“At this time, all involved parties appear to be cooperating with investigators, and there is no threat to the public,” said CPD spokesperson Scott Beaubien.
Beaubien said that the man who broke in sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was flown to Nashville by AirEvac for medical treatment. His condition is currently unknown, and this is an active and ongoing investigation.
