CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Austin Peay baseball team completed its regular season last weekend at North Alabama. The series didn’t go the Governors’ way; however, a win in the prior weekend’s series over Eastern Kentucky ensured the Govs clinched a spot in the 2026 ASUN Championship.

As the No. 7 seed, the Govs will take on the No. 5 seeded Jacksonville Dolphins. The Govs-Dolphins matchup will be the first of the tournament, and the ASUN rivals will get underway at 1 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.

The top two seeds, which are North Florida and Lipscomb, get the luxury of not playing until Thursday. The Tuesday and Wednesday games are single elimination, so if the Govs lose to the Dolphins, the season is over.

If the Govs beat the Dolphins on Tuesday, they’ll take on No. 4 seed North Alabama on Wednesday. If the Govs were to win that one as well, they’d take on No. 1 seed North Florida on Thursday in a double-elimination series. This means the Govs have to have a perfect Tuesday and Wednesday to advance to the double elimination stage.

Govs looking to shake off disappointing regular season

The Govs are in unfamiliar territory this month, as this is the first time the program hasn’t been regular season conference champions since 2023. As a result, they have the hardest postseason path they’ve had in a few seasons.

However, as we’ve learned in the past, a dominant regular season doesn’t guarantee postseason success. The Govs won an impressive 45 games last season, but still ultimately fell in the ASUN Tournament. The hope this season is that the Govs still haven’t played their best ball yet, and it could all come together in the tournament.

Now, after an underwhelming regular season, it’s possible the Govs are being overlooked. If the Govs end up winning the tournament this week, nobody will remember regular season struggles.

First pitch in Game 1 will be on Tuesday at 1 p.m., in DeLand, Fla.
