CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Matthew Hardaway stepped down as West Creek’s head boys’ basketball coach on Friday morning following a 17-12 season last year.

In a statement, Hardaway announced his decision and reflected on his three-year tenure with the Coyotes. “With a deeply grateful heart and profound reflection, I am sharing the news that I am stepping down as your head basketball coach at West Creek High School. This journey has given me some of my fondest adult memories, and this decision was one of the hardest I’ve faced.”

Hardaway took over the West Creek basketball program in 2023 and finished with a combined 41-37 record during his three seasons at the helm.

He said the decision to step down was largely motivated by his desire to spend more time with his family.

“While I have given so much to this program, the timing calls for me to focus on my most cherished role: being a present and active father for my family,” Hardaway wrote. “This is not a goodbye, but a shift in my path; I still carry the fire for the game and the competitive spirit to coach again in the future.”

The Coyotes will now begin the search for a new head coach after graduating key seniors Kameron Bowers and Kamden Hines this offseason.

Clarksville Now has reached out to Hardaway for comment.
