Update, 7:45 a.m. Tuesday: The man shot by Clarksville Police has died from his injuries, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

The incident began shortly before 11 a.m. Monday at a home in the 100 block of Fairview Lane, off of Trenton Road in St. Bethlehem. Officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance and encountered 33-year-old David McRae, who was holding a firearm in the driveway, according to preliminary information released by TBI.

When officers arrived, McRae fired at them, resulting in three officers returning fire, striking McRae. Officers gave CPR to McRae following the shooting, but he died from his injuries.

No officers were hurt in the incident, the TBI said.

TBI agents are working to independently determine the series of events in the shooting, including collecting evidence and conducting interviews. Throughout the process, investigative findings will be shared with District Attorney General Robert Nash for his further review and consideration.

“The TBI acts solely as fact-finders in its cases and does not determine whether an officer’s actions were justified in these types of matters. That decision rests with the District Attorney General requesting TBI’s involvement,” the TBI statement said.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A man was shot by police Monday morning after officers responded to a domestic disturbance on Fairview Lane.

Clarksville Police officers responded to the disturbance in progress call at about 10:56 a.m., according to CPD spokesperson Scott Beaubien. The caller reported her adult son was outside with a firearm and had already fired the weapon.

When officers arrived and made contact with the man, police said there was an exchange of gunfire between him and responding officers. The man was shot and taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Clarksville for treatment. His condition was not immediately available.

No officers were injured, Beaubien said.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the District Attorney’s Office have been notified and will investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
