CLARKSVILLE, TN – The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) has welcomed LG Electronics of Clarksville as the newest member of the Tennessee Green Star Partnership.
The Tennessee Green Star Partnership is an environmental leadership program that recognizes manufacturers across the state committed to sustainability and exhibiting continuous improvement in their operations.
LG Electronics manufactures most models and lines of LG washing machines and dryers sold in the United States. Approximately 6,000 units are produced per day in the 861,000 square foot facility.
“LG’s achievements are impressive,” said Commissioner David Salyers of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. “LG has intentionally incorporated sustainability into its culture and we are grateful for their environmental stewardship.”
LG Electronics has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental stewardship since opening its Clarksville manufacturing facility in 2018. As the company’s primary U.S. production site for most LG washing machines and dryers, the facility operates an integrated manufacturing system that streamlines production, improves efficiency, and supports high‑quality output. LG’s dedication to responsible operations is reflected in its ISO certifications, as well as its recognition in 2023 as the first U.S. facility designated a World Economic Forum Lighthouse Factory.
The Clarksville operation is powered entirely by renewable energy and utilizes real‑time energy monitoring to optimize performance. The facility has also made significant progress in waste reduction, achieving a 90 percent diversion rate through Zero Waste to Landfill Silver Operations, increasing recycling rates from 76 percent in 2020 to 90 percent in 2025, and recycling thousands of tons of metal, cardboard, plastic, and wood each year.
To qualify for membership in the Tennessee Green Star Partnership, manufacturers must meet several key criteria. They must operate under ISO 14001 certification – a voluntary environmental management standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization – or maintain an environmental management system that aligns with ISO 14001 principles. In addition, applicants must demonstrate a minimum of three consecutive years of exemplary environmental compliance with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) and show a clear commitment to continuous operational improvement.
