Laverne Alice Battle Mallory, age 89, of Clarksville, departed this life Tuesday, October 4, 2022, with her husband and sister-in-law, Tammy, by her side.

She was born January 9, 1933, to the late Arthur and Pinkie Battle in Orlando, FL.

LaVerne received her education in New Britian, CT. and worked as a Unit Secretary and Anesthesiology Assistant and Tift General Hospital in Tifton, GA. She professed her faith in Christ at an early age and united with MCCullogh Temple CME Church in New Britain. For the past eighteen years, she and her husband were members of New Providence Church of Christ on New Providence Boulevard.  On September 7, 1995, she was married to Homer L. Mallory of Clarksville, TN.

In addition to her loving husband, LaVerne leaves behind to cherish her memories her dear sister, Louise Nelson; daughters, Deidre and Kyndra Miller and Sharon Hanns; sons, Ronald (Cynthia) Miller, Elrese (Jeanetta) Peterson JR, Wayne (Patrica) Peterson, Raymond (Fred) Peterson and Don (Beatrice) Mallory, cousin, Ruthenia Moses and family along with a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and church family and friends. She wished to thank Virgie Mallory and children Joe Ann Burgess, Maggie Varner, Jeanette Price, Deanna Haywood, Tammy Hall, Joe Mallory and Comer L. Mallory for being there for her; “I loved you all!”

LaVerne wrote the following poem to share with all her loved ones: “He Only Took My Hand” Last night I was trying to sleep, my mother’s voice I did hear. I opened my eyes and looked around, but she did not appear. She said, “You’ve got to understand, God didn’t take me from you, he only took my hand.” When I called out in pain that morning, the instant that I died, he reached out and took my hand, and pulled me to his side. He pulled me up and saved me from the misery and pain. My body was hurt so badly inside, I could never be the same. My search is really over now… I found happiness within, All the answers to my empty dreams and all that might have been. I love you all, and miss you so, and I’ll always be nearby. My body’s gone forever, but my spirit will never die! And so, you must all go now, live life one day at a time. Just understand, God did not take me from you, he only took my hand. -LaVerne A.
