CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Clarksville Wildcats traveled to “The Pit” at Kirkwood High School for a flag football district quarterfinal playoff matchup on Monday. Two early touchdowns and a shutout from the Cobras defense powered Kirkwood to a 12-0 win, advancing them to the semifinals and ending Clarksville High’s season.
The Cobras got off to a fast start, scoring on two of their first three plays on offense. Lillian Peacock scored on a strike from quarterback Emma Goode on the second play from scrimmage, and after a three-and-out from Clarksville, Zoe Thompson scored on a pitch option on the first play of the ensuing drive. Six minutes into the contest, and Kirkwood already had a commanding 12-0 lead.

“It was really important to start quickly,” said Kirkwood head coach Nick Perchich. “With these kids, if they get a little confidence under their belt, they get rolling. This defensive unit is really good; they can compete with anyone. Once we got that momentum, we never let up.”

The Clarksville defense stiffened, not allowing another score for the rest of the contest, but the Wildcat offense never got going. Clarksville had several possessions where they threatened to score, but they couldn’t get across the goal line. With that, the season came to an end for the purple and gold, and the careers of the first class of seniors to play all four years.
“Hats off to Kirkwood, they had answers for everything we were trying to get done,” said Wildcats head coach Taylor Stanley. “This class cared about this program; they pushed themselves, cared about taking care of business in the classroom, and I had a great time coaching them.”
As for Kirkwood, they’re back in the same spot they were last season, in a semifinal matchup with West Creek High School on Wednesday. For Perchich and crew, despite being the underdog against the undefeated Coyotes, this is the spot they wanted to be in.
“That game was a lot of fun, kids played really hard on both sides,” said Perchich. “Our kids were able to handle business, and they deserve this. We’re right back where we were, and there’s nowhere else we’d rather be.
