CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The crash that shut down Interstate 24 Saturday morning was caused by speeding motorcycles.

At about 9 a.m., two motorcycles were traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed: a 2004 Honda CBR 180 driven by a 25-year-old from Alabama, and a 2023 Kawasaki ZX1 driven by a 29-year-old from Tennessee, according to a Tennessee Highway Patrol preliminary report.

The motorcycles were in the eastbound right-hand lane and moved into the left lane near Exit 4. A commercial vehicle then moved into the left lane to make room for traffic merging onto I24, the THP report said.

“Due to their high rate of speed, (the motorcycles) failed to maintain control as they slowed down to avoid striking the commercial vehicle,” the report said.

The Honda ran into the rear tire of the Kawasaki. Both motorcycles came to a rest on the roadway. The Honda rider was injured; the Kawasaki rider was not.
