FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. – Actor/humanitarian Gary Sinise and his Lt. Dan Band will perform a free USO concert for Fort Campbell soldiers and their families, Friday, Sept. 4 at the Division Parade Field.
Inspired by his role as a disabled Vietnam Veteran in the 1994 film Forrest Gump, Sinise founded the Lt. Dan Band and through a partnership with the USO began performing for service members all over the world. Over the last 12 years, the band has played over 300 shows for service members and their families, wounded warriors, Gold Star Families, and veterans.
In 2011, Sinise founded the Gary Sinise Foundation, whose mission is to support and honor the nation’s defenders, veterans, first responders, and their families by creating and supporting unique programs designed to entertain, educate, inspire, strengthen and build communities.
Sinise has received numerous honors for his service to the military and veteran communities. In 2008, President George W. Bush presented Sinise with the Presidential Citizens Medal, the second-highest civilian honor awarded to citizens. This October, Sinise will receive the United States Military Academy at West Point’s prestigious Sylvanus Thayer Award. The award is presented to an outstanding citizen whose service and accomplishments in the national interest exemplify the Military Academy motto, “Duty, Honor, Country.”
The concert, sponsored by the USO and Gary Sinise Foundation, is free and open to all DoD cardholders with valid ID cards and their family members.
The venue opens at 5 p.m. with the opening act, Stolen Silver, taking the stage at 7 p.m. American Airlines, the official airline sponsor of the Gary Sinise Foundation, and Fort Campbell Morale Welfare and Recreation are also sponsors for the event.
