CLARKSVILLE, TN – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the launch of its Blue Envelope Program, a new initiative designed to support safer and more effective communication during law enforcement interactions.
Blue Envelope Program packets are now available for pickup at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, located at 120 Commerce St.
The Blue Envelope Program is a localized communication support tool used during law enforcement encounters, most commonly traffic stops, to assist individuals who may experience communication, sensory, or cognitive challenges. The program is primarily intended to support individuals with autism spectrum disorder, but it may also benefit others with similar needs.
Each blue envelope is designed to hold a driver’s license, vehicle registration, and insurance information, along with guidance for both the driver and deputy. The envelope serves as a visual cue to alert deputies that the individual may require additional patience, clear communication, or specific accommodations during the interaction.
This program was implemented as part of our efforts leading up to and during Autism Awareness Month and reflects our continued commitment to improving deputies’ understanding of autism and fostering more positive interactions with the community.
Community members interested in participating in the Blue Envelope Program can pick up an envelope at the Sheriff’s Office during normal business hours.
