Vivian Hurn, a junior and member of the girls wrestling team at Montgomery Central High School, is this week’s ESPN Clarksville & Culver’s High School Athlete of the Week.

Hurn has a long list of awards for wrestling, including winning the Tennessee High School Wrestling Championship twice. She recently placed 5th in the nation at the Oklahoma City Nationals and she plans to compete in the upcoming wrestling nationals in New York City.

Hurn decided to try wrestling after one of the other wrestlers at school said she looked the part.

“I went to my first competition and I was thrown in the air five feet and it was crazy, but it was the most amazing experience,” Hurn said.

Hurn decided this sport was for her and she really enjoys it, adding that she has only lost twice the entire time she has been wrestling. She also participates in track and field, cross country and soccer.

Benton Jackson, one of the strengthening and conditioning coaches at the school for the girls wrestling team, said Hurn is one the most amazing student-athletes he has been able to work with.

“The work ethic she puts in on and off the mat, in the classroom, the weight room and all of the conditioning we do, she’s a leader in the classroom and a leader on the mat in everything we’re doing,” Jackson said.

Congratulations to the ESPN Clarksville & Culver’s High School Athlete of the Week, Vivian Hurn.
