CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Dr. Michael Licari has been selected to serve as Austin Peay State University’s 11th President. The Board of Trustees voted 10-1 to approve Licari’s appointment.
Licari was selected by the APSU Presidential Search Committee from over 100 applicants, including two other finalists, Interim President Dannelle Whiteside and Dr. Jaime Taylor.
Licari is provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs for Indiana State University. He holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
He previously served as Professor of Political Science at Indiana State University, the University of Northern Iowa and State University of New York Binghamton.
“Dr. Licari has long-standing experience in academia and has risen through the ranks in a public university setting,” said Board of Trustees Chairman Michael O’Malley. “The search committee feels that his vast experience will be invaluable to Austin Peay State University.
Licari will inherit the office of university president from Dr. Alisa White, who left Austin Peay to assumed the presidency of Sam Houston State University in July of this year.
Fellow finalist Dannelle Whiteside served as interim president following White’s absence.
