CLARKSVILLE, TN – For six years, David Zeveney has been an active member of the local American Legion CSM Gary W. Crisp Post 289. Serving as the post commander from 2020 to 2022, this year he passed his gavel on to the newly elected Post 289 commander, Carmen Cherry. Looking for more ways to serve the American Legion, David accepted the nomination and was elected the sixth district commander of American Legion Department of Tennessee. In his new role, he will continue to serve in the programs of the local post and will be responsible to lead 16 American Legion posts in the upper middle Tennessee region.

Zeveney, an Operation Just Cause combat veteran, served as a light infantryman, earning his Expert Infantry Badge and Combat Infantry Badge while with the 7th Infantry Division Light. He later re-enlisted and became a military policeman in 1991 and was assigned to the sixth U.S. Army Law Enforcement Company (LEC) while stationed on the Presidio of San Francisco. He served five years active duty in the U.S. Army.

While a member of the American Legion, he has served in many roles and supporting programs. He was the first post historian, served as First Vice Commander, Post Commander, and Post 289 Scouting Executive Officer for 2 Post Boy Scout Troops and a Cub Scout pack. He is in the Post’s American Legion Amateur Radio Club, Honor Guard, Color Guard, and Legion Riders. Commander Zeveney was the first male spouse of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 289. He is also a member of the newly chartered Sons of the American Legion 289.
