CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – After a recent speed limit change on a portion of Hwy 48/13 in a construction zone, Clarksville police stepped up enforcement in the area.
As of Friday morning, police had issued 48 speeding citations for drivers who ignored the new posted speed. The speed limit was decreased to 35 mph from 45 mph earlier this week.
Most of the citations were for speeds exceeding 15 mph or over the posted speed limit of 35 mph. The highest speed noted in the area was 65 mph.
“To further ensure the safety of the construction workers in the area, CPD will continue its increased enforcement in the area,” CPD spokesman Jim Knoll said. “For the safety of workers, please slow down.”
Citation costs for speeding in a construction zone can vary between $140 to $474.50, depending on whether the citation is written for city or state court, and has a point assessment on your license from 2-8 points.
The construction area goes beyond the boundary of the city limits into the county, but CPD will only enforce the 35 mph speed within the city limits.
