CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A 73-year-old Clarksville man recently lost $24,000 after he became the victim of an IP address scam.

According to Clarksville police, the man received a call from an individual who went by the name ‘Mike’ and claimed to work for Norton Security. The scammer told the man his IP address had been hacked.

The man was then referred to another person who referred to himself as ‘Norman Jackson’ and told the victim multiple IP addresses had been hacked. He said the victim would have to pay to fix each one.

Over the course of a week, individual on the phone. The victim realized it was a scam when the bank called and questioned the large withdrawal.

The Clarksville Police Department reminds the public to watch out for scams in which victims are asked to purchase gift cards, green dot cards, or money orders to pay off debts or purchase other items online.
