Animal Control responded to a call May 12 regarding a citizen that confined a neutered male Pit-bull type dog that appeared friendly. Animal Control picked up the dog and brought him to the shelter where he was scanned for a microchip. Because the dog had a microchip, he was returned to his owner that day. Please have your pet spayed or neutered and microchipped. It can save the animal’s life!

On May 12, Animal Control received a call regarding three Labrador Retrievers and one Burmese Mountain dog that had been abandoned when their owner died. All dogs were inside the residence. Because the dogs were not in imminent danger, they could not be seized. A 24-hour notice was left for any possible caretaker. Animal Control was called the following morning by the caretaker, confirming the dogs were being taken care of in the morning and evening by family members of the deceased.

Animal Control received a cruelty complaint May 5 regarding multiple animals dying on a property and being buried in the backyard. An Animal Control Officer responded and found four dogs and four cats. One of the dogs had an injured leg and none of the animals were current on rabies vaccinations. The Animal Control officer gave the owner 10 days to provide proof of rabies for all eight animals and advised the owner to seek immediate veterinary care for the dog. To date, the owner is not in compliance and citations will be issued this week.
Update on two current animal cruelty cases:
Warrants have been sworn for the abandoned puppy case and also for the abandoned cats/deceased guinea pig.
The puppies are still in protective custody under close supervision and the cats have been adopted into a loving home.
