HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – School officials say a threat was made towards Christian County High School in Kentucky on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018.

The school made a call to parents at 9:45 a.m. No one was harmed and students are safe.

The Christian County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 15-year-old student Friday who allegedly made threats to “bring a gun and shoot up the school.”

Authorities took the student into custody for questioning and detectives said he admitted to making the statement, saying that it was “meant as a joke.”

Reports from investigators say they were made aware of the threat by students who overheard the comments and notified a teacher.

The student was charged with Terroristic Threatening 2nd and transported to McCracken Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Paducah, Ky. where he will remain until his court date.

Communications and Community Education Director Heather Lancaster said students, faculty, and staff are safe and the situation was resolved.

“We are thankful to students who came forward with information about a potentially dangerous situation. Because of these students and their heroic efforts, this situation was quickly resolved due to action taken by school and law officials. Everyone at the school is safe,” Lancaster said.

“As a reminder, threats are never taken lightly at this school, or at any of our schools across this district. School will be on regular schedule today. Parents we appreciate you support as always, if you have any questions about school safety, please call the school at (270) 887-7050. We’ll be happy to talk with you.”
