CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Justin Swallows, a longtime media professional and Downtown Clarksville resident, has announced his campaign for Clarksville City Council in Ward 6.

Swallows said he has spent decades using his platform to support student athletes, local businesses, nonprofit organizations and community initiatives. He said his decision to run for office is rooted in a desire to serve the community in a greater capacity.

“This is not just my campaign, it is our campaign,” Swallows said. “Ward 6 deserves leadership that listens first, communicates openly, shows up consistently, and ensures residents have a meaningful voice in the decisions that impact their lives.”

Since moving to downtown Clarksville in 2020, Swallows said, he has remained actively engaged in several major community conversations. Through his Saturday Sports Splash radio show, he publicly advocated for what would become F&M Bank Arena, and more recently he helped lead the “Keep The Kats” effort, which contributed to Clarksville securing its first professional sports franchise since the Clarksville Coyotes in the 1990s.

A first-time candidate, Swallows says his campaign will focus on public engagement, responsible growth, stronger neighborhoods, quality of life improvements, strategic public-private partnerships, and greater transparency in local government.

“Too often, residents feel like important decisions are made before they ever have the opportunity to be part of the conversation,” Swallows said. “From discussions surrounding Mason Rudolph Golf Course to the Ajax Turner Senior Center, many people felt their voices were not heard early enough in the process. I believe that must change.”

Swallows and his wife, Whitney, have been married for 16 years and have been members of Hilldale United Methodist Church since 2010. He is also a proud member of the Downtown Clarksville Kiwanis Club.
