CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – It hasn’t even been a full week since early voting began for the Aug. 6 State Primary and County General Elections, and already close to 5,000 people have voted for their desired candidates.
The county mayor’s office, sheriff, the entire County Commission and part of the School Board are up for election. Also on the ballot are state primaries for governor, U.S. Senate, U.S. House, state Senate, state House and several party committee offices.
As of Wednesday, July 22, at 5:30 p.m., the Montgomery County Election Commission reported that 4,784 people have voted, according to the commission’s current cumulative total. This includes an average of 918 people voting in person at the Election Commission office since early voting began on Friday, July 17.

During the first day of early voting, 1,165 voters showed up to the Election Commission to vote, while a little less than 500 showed up on Saturday, July 18. 1,052 voters showed up on Monday, 974 showed up the next day, and 903 on Wednesday.
2,949 voters used Republican primary ballots, while 1,724 used Democratic. 111 people voted in the general election only. Leading up to early voting, 159 people voted through a nursing home or by mail.

Where to vote early
Early voting will run through Aug. 1 at the main Election Commission office, with additional dates at three satellite locations.
Election Commission:
The Montgomery County Election Commission is at 350 Pageant Lane, Suite 404. Voting there will take place:
- July 23, Thursday: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- July 24, Friday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- July 25, Saturday: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- July 27, Monday: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- July 28, Tuesday: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- July 29, Wednesday: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- July 30, Thursday: 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- July 31, Friday: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Aug. 1, Saturday: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Those sites will hold early voting on these dates and times:
- July 25, Saturday: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- July 27, Monday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- July 28, Tuesday: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- July 29, Wednesday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- July 30, Thursday: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- July 31, Friday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Aug. 1, Saturday: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
What to bring to the polls
To vote early or on Aug. 6, Tennessee voters are required to show a valid photo identification. A driver’s license or photo ID issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, the Tennessee state government, or the federal government are acceptable, even if expired. College student IDs are not accepted.
Because this general election is combined with a state party primary, voters will be asked whether they want a Republican or Democratic ballot. This will not affect whether they vote with party affiliation in the Montgomery County General Election races. Voters may also opt for a County General Election-only ballot that does not include the party primary races.
What happens next in Montgomery County elections?
Aug. 6: Election Day for the State Primary and County General Election. Early voting is July 17-Aug. 1.
Nov. 3: Election Day for State General and City of Clarksville Election, with the mayor and half the City Council seats on the ballot. Early voting will be Oct. 14-29.
