The garrison colors were passed from Jordan to Midberry, symbolizing the outgoing commander passing along the mantle of leadership.
Also participating in the ceremony were the Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Chad Stackpole and Brenda Lee McCullough, director of Installation Management Command-Readiness.
Jordan said he didn’t want to say the word “retire;” he said he was transitioning out of the Army to explore what he called “additional opportunities.”
He said he has seen first-hand the impact that the Department of the Army civilian professionals have on the readiness and resilience of the soldiers and their families.
“I’ve had the honor of working closely with some of the finest patriots and servant leaders in our Army, and I’m going to tell you, a lot of those don’t wear camouflage, thank you for what you do,” Jordan said.
The new garrison commander, Midberry, makes his return to Fort Campbell having commanded the 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, of the 101st Airborne Division from 2017-2019.
“I’m truly humbled and excited to be taking command of the garrison here at Fort Campbell. I am honored to return to this great installation for the second time. I promise to give you nothing but my best, as together we make this installation the best in the Army,” Midberry said.
The ceremony ended with singer Jenny Teator performing a song she wrote titled “Screaming Eagles” about her grandfather who served in the 101st as a paratrooper during World War II. Teator was joined by fellow performer Sheridan Gates.
