CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Montgomery County Election Commission is reminding voters that Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, and all registered voters should make a plan to vote and review the proposed constitutional amendments before arriving at their polling place.

“Election Day is an important opportunity for citizens to make their voices heard,” said Amanda Joslin, Administrator of Elections. “We encourage voters to review the proposed constitutional amendments before arriving at the polls.”

“Voters who take time to prepare before Election Day are better equipped to make informed decisions at the ballot box,” said Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett.

Constitutional amendments on TN ballot

There are three proposed amendments to the Tennessee Constitution on the ballot.

Hargett noted that amendments often contain detailed language and may require additional time to review and consider. Voters who review the amendments before Election Day can spend more time focusing on their choices and less time reading lengthy ballot language in the voting booth.

Here’s a summary from WKRN-News 2 in Nashville, with links to the full language:

  • Amendment 1 would expand the circumstances in which judges can deny bail to people accused of certain serious crimes, including second-degree murder and aggravated rape.
  • Amendment 2 would prohibit Tennessee from imposing a state property tax. Tennessee has not levied a state property tax in more than 75 years.
  • Amendment 3 would expand constitutional protections for crime victims, including their rights to participate in certain court proceedings and the parole process.
