CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Montgomery and surrounding counties are under a Code Orange Air Quality Alert from midnight Sunday to midnight Monday because of smoke from the Canadian wildfires.

The alert was issued Sunday afternoon by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation because “ground level particulate matter concentrations within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards.”

The National Weather Service said smoke from the wildfires in Canada is causing hazy conditions, warming temperatures and scattered storms this week.

The smoke pushed into Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky on Sunday, creating a hazy sky and reducing visibilities to around 5 miles in most areas, according to Clarksville Now news partner WKRN-Channel 2 in Nashville.

“The general public is not likely to be affected,” the TDEC alert said. “Active children and adults, and people with a respiratory disease such as asthma, should limit prolonged outdoor exertion.”
