CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Austin Peay basketball is scheduled to take on the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville on Dec. 21.

According to Austin Peay Director of Athletic Communications, Nicholas Petrone, the series between the two sides began in the year 1940. The upcoming meeting is the 10th overall meeting.

The University of Tennessee holds the all-time series record of 1-8. However, during their last meeting back in 2011, the Governors traveled to Knoxville and upset the Volunteers on their own court by a score of 74-70.

2022-23 season

Austin Peay Head Coach Nate James and his team currently have a record of 6-6 entering their 13th contest of the year. The Govs have won 3 out of their last 4 games, but the team is coming off a loss to Murray State.

Meanwhile, Tennessee has emerged as one of the most talented teams in college basketball thus far. They have compiled a record of 9-2, which includes beating teams such as the Gonzaga Bulldogs, Butler Bulldogs, USC Trojans and the defending national champion Kansas Jayhawks.

Their accomplishments up to this point in the season have earned them the No. 8 overall ranking in the AP poll.

Tennessee is also coming off a loss to the Arizona Wildcats, so both teams should be looking to respond in a big way tonight.
