CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Looking for something fun to do Thursday night? The Austin Peay baseball team has you covered. The Govs are preparing for their fifth annual Wild Card game.

If you’re unfamiliar, this is a Govs intrasquad scrimmage, paired with other activities. This year, the team plans a Home Run Derby, free face painting, and post-game trick-or-treating around the bases.

“We are fired up for the fifth annual Wild Card game!” head coach Roland Fanning told Clarksville Now. “This is a community event that has grown each year, and we hope to continue growing it with everyone’s great support.”

Wild Card game details

The gates at Raymond C. Hand Park will open at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Admission is free, and 500 slices of pizza and 200 beers (for those 21-plus) will be distributed free, while supplies last.

Even for non-baseball fans, there will be plenty to enjoy. There will be free face painting and bounce houses for children, and the kids will be able to be on the field for the national anthem. After the Home Run Derby and Wild Card game, children are also able to participate in trick-or-treating around the bases.

The Home Run Derby will feature current Governors Houston Hebert, Aaron Jamison and Brodie Short. Hebert graduated from Rossview and was on the team last year, while Jamison and Short are newcomers.

“We’re just excited to show that we are Clarksville’s hometown team, and we look forward to giving our fans a glimpse at what our team will look like this season,” Fanning said.

There will be a live DJ at the event, as well as the Austin Peay band, cheer, and dance teams. Student athletes will be available for autographs at the end of the event.
