CLARKSVILLE, TN – On Monday, July 11, Girl Scout Troops 409 and 2236 received their Bronze and Silver awards and were pinned by Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts.
Troop 409 earned the Bronze award by talking to the local animal shelter and finding out a need they had. Not only did the animal shelter need food, toys and bedding for the animals, but they also needed a reusable container specifically made for cat birth. The girls then designed and created birthing pods for the shelter to use. The troop was able to create five birthing boxes as well as donate food, toys and bedding for the shelter. The girls spent over 50 hours making sure that the project would be a success.
Troop 2236 created two projects; they researched needs in the Clarksville community and one of those needs was to help school-aged girls with creating period packs. Over 250 period packs were distributed in the school system to help young girls not only gain vital information about their menstrual cycle, but also inform them of where they can get supplies if needed.
The packs contained supplies and informational brochures. Another project created was a free lending library. The girls built the lending library by hand, after creating a fun and unique design. This lending library helps promote reading literacy and provide books for those in need. These girls easily spent over 100 hours working towards their goals for these projects.
