FORT CAMPBELL, KY (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Kenwood High baseball traveled to Fort Campbell to take on the Falcons in a Saturday afternoon contest. Both teams looked to end their losing streaks, but the Knights were the victors behind an explosive offense.
The game began as a defensive battle. The starting pitchers looked effective on the mound for each side. Kenwood’s Danny Thompson struck out five batters through three innings as he held the Falcons scoreless. His counterpart on the Falcons, Aidan Blaszkowski, only allowed three baserunners through three innings of work. Blaszkowski picked off two of those runners in scoring position to hold the Knights scoreless.
Each team broke their scoring droughts in the fourth inning as the sides found a rhythm on the offensive side of the ball. After the Falcons drove in four runs in the bottom of the fourth, the Knights responded with urgency in the following half inning.
Their offensive output began with three singles and two walks. Following a sacrifice fly, Fort Campbell imploded with three errors with two outs. At this point Kenwood notched a 8-4 lead. Their production did not stop there though. With two runners on base, Marvin Wares hit a controversial three-run homer that capped off the inning.
Runaway finale
The Falcons continued to fight throughout the remaining innings, but it was too little too late. The Knights held on to win the game 15-6. Kenwood outhit their opponent while minimizing runs on the defensive side of the ball.
“The team had a rough start to the game as we found our hits going straight to the opposition,” said Kenwood head coach Tyler Mosley. “Then in the fifth inning we had our hits falling into place. We managed to rally behind our guys getting on base and the other teams miscues. After that point we did not look back.”
