CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Early voting has wrapped up for the Nov. 3 election, and over 32,000 people in Montgomery County have cast their ballots. This is the State General and City of Clarksville election, with governor, Congress, Tennessee General Assembly, city mayor and half the City Council on the ballot.

As of Thursday, the final day for early voting, 32,636 ballots had been cast at the four early voting sites, along with nursing home and mail-in votes.

That’s much more than the early voter turnout in the most recent similar election in November 2022 – which was also a federal midterm, state and city election with the governor and mayor on the ballot. That election had only 19,445 early votes. The final voter turnout in November 2022 was 29.78%.

This voting pace is more similar to November 2018, which had 31,429 early votes and ended with 47.77% turnout. So, at this pace, Montgomery County could see close to 50% turnout, depending on the number of registered voters.

Here are the final Montgomery voter turnouts for recent presidential midterm/city mayor cycle elections:

  • 2006: Bush midterm, 48.41%
  • 2010: Obama midterm, 33.76%
  • 2014: Obama midterm: 29.87%
  • 2018: Trump midterm: 47.77%
  • 2022: Biden midterm: 29.78%

  • Amendment 1 would expand the circumstances in which judges can deny bail to people accused of certain serious crimes, including second-degree murder and aggravated rape.
  • Amendment 2 would prohibit Tennessee from imposing a state property tax. Tennessee has not levied a state property tax in more than 75 years.
  • Amendment 3 would expand constitutional protections for crime victims, including their rights to participate in certain court proceedings and the parole process.
